MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Korea Alcohol Industrial has increased its ethyl acetate (etac) output because of higher-than-expected domestic demand for the solvent acetate, a company official said on Wednesday.

“We increased our etac output to full capacity in late December because of an increase in our domestic sales volume,” the official said.

“We’re producing about 173 to 174 tonnes of etac a day,” he added.

Korea Alcohol Industrial is South Korea’s sole etac/butac producer and operates an 85,000 tonne/year etac/butac swing plant in Ulsan.

The company cut its etac output by about 5% to roughly 90% capacity in early December to reduce its year-end inventory. It lowered its butyl acetate (butac) production level to approximately 60% capacity for the same reason.

The producer has kept its butac production level unchanged because of ongoing slow demand.

“Our butac output is about 40 tonnes a day,” said the official.
