SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Honeywell subsidiary UOP said late on Tuesday it will provide the technology for a cumene plant and a phenol plant that Kumho P&B Chemicals (KPB) plans to build at Yeosu in South Korea.

The new units are expected to be started up in 2013-2014 and will produce 900,000 tonnes/year of cumene and 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol, UOP said in a statement.

Financial details of the project were not immediately available.

The facilities will use UOP’s Q-max and Phenol process technology which will produce cumene through the alkylation of benzene and propylene as well as convert cumene to phenol, the statement said.

KPB is a subsidiary of South Korea’s Kumho Petrochemical.
