SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corp (FCFC) has shut its 550,000 tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Mailiao in the first week of January for a half-month long scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The company plans to restart the No 2 PTA unit before the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays that start of 22 January, the source said.

FCFC has already informed its customers of the delay in the delivery of contract terms because of the shut down, the source added.

The company recently reduced operating rates at its 700,000 tonne/year PTA unit at Long-der because of technical issues, the company source said.

The company source was unable to provide details on the exact operating rates of the unit and the when production capacity will be ramped up.
