China’s BP Zhuhai restarts No 2 PTA unit in Ningbo after expansion

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s BP Zhuhai restarted its newly-expanded 1.1m tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Guangdong province earlier this week, a company source said on Friday.

The No 2 PTA unit was shut on 6 December last year for around 36 days for debottlenecking works to be completed, the source said.

The debottlenecking increased the plant’s capacity by 200,000 tonnes/year.

BP Zhuhai is a joint venture between BP and China’s Zhuhai Port Co.

PTA is the preferred raw material used to manufacture polyethylene terephthalate, a widely used polyester polymer for the production of textiles, bottles, packaging and film products.
