US Nov LLDPE exports rise 13% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) exports for November were up by 13% from the same month in 2010, according to data available from the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Exports of LLDPE rose to 53,282 tonnes from 47,318 tonnes in November 2010.

Mexico took 16,922 tonnes of US LLDPE, while Canada took 5,682 tonnes and China took 3,666 tonnes.

Year-to-date export activity for LLDPE fell by 17% to 526,571 tonnes in 2011 from 634,262 tonnes in 2010.

US low density polyethylene (LDPE) exports increased by 7.2% year on year in November, rising to 51,705 tonnes in 2011 from 48,248 tonnes in 2010, according to the ITC.

Canada, Mexico and Peru purchased the most LDPE exported from the US, together taking more than half of all US exports. Mexico purchased 32% more in November 2011, taking 10,395 tonnes, up from 7,876 tonnes in November 2010.

US high density polyethylene (HDPE) exports increased by 7.9% year on year in November, rising to 140,862 tonnes in 2011 from 130,548 tonnes in November 2010, according to the ITC.

Mexico, Canada and China were the largest importers of US HDPE material, with Mexico purchasing 20% more HDPE in November 2011 than in November 2010, and China purchasing 78% more HDPE in November 2011 than in November 2010.

Major US PE producers include Chevron Phillips Chemical, LyondellBasell, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, Westlake, INEOS, Total, Nova Chemicals and Formosa.
