US sorbitol exports increase by 12% in November year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of the sugar alcohol sorbitol in November increased by 12% from November 2010, according to data made available on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Exports of sorbitol in November totalled 3,073 tonnes, an increase from the 2,756 tonnes exported in November 2010, but a decrease from the 3,480 tonnes exported in October 2011.

Mexico at 1,356 tonnes was the major recipient of US sorbitol in November, followed by Canada at 1,319 tonnes.

Other destinations included Australia, Argentina, Colombia, China, India, Italy, South Africa and Venezuela.

US producers of sorbitol include Corn Products International, Roquette America and Archer Daniels Midland.
