SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics will be shutting down its 40,000 tonne/year No 1 butanediol (BDO) line in Mailiao later this week to cope with rising inventory amid poor demand, a source familiar with the company’s operations said on Tuesday.

Nan Ya Plastics is also planning to shut its 60,000 tonne/year No 2 BDO line during the New Year holiday this month, in order to cope with rising BDO inventories, added the source.

The No 1 line will likely be shut down on 20 January, the source said.

There is no restart date fixed for both BDO plants, added the source.

Nan Ya Plastics restarted the 60,000 tonne/year No 2 BDO plant on 9 October last year, while its 40,000 tonne/year No 1 BDO line was restarted 1 December, 2011.

Industry players have been monitoring Nan Ya Plastics plant operations closely since the fourth quarter of last year, as the company has been facing massive problems trying to sell its BDO stocks into China.
