BASF Fina reports emissions from Texas cracker

HOUSTON (ICIS)--BASF Fina reported emissions from its Port Arthur cracker in Texas in a public filing available on Wednesday, citing a potential leaking exchanger that resulted in over-limit benzene emissions.

"Operations to isolate... exchangers based on analytical results… to determine leak source and further actions," the company said in the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The 934,000 tonne/year cracker is a joint venture between BASF and Total.

The unit is scheduled to go down in April for a major turnaround, which will result in increased feedstock flexibility at the site.

A BASF spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
