SINGAPORE (ICIS)--US-based Myriant Corp will be global supplier of biosuccinic acid to Japanese chemical producer Showa Denko under a supply agreement between the two countries, a joint statement said late on Wednesday.

Under the terms of the supply agreement, Showa Denko will utilise Myriant’s biosuccinic acid for the production of high-performance bio-degradable poly-butylene succinate, the statement said.

Financial details of the agreement were not revealed.

According to the statement, forecasts currently project that more than 1m tonnes of bioplastics will be used by the year 2015.

Succinic acid is commonly used in the production of pigments, polymers, solvents, for applications such as paints and polyurethane.

High-performance bio-degradable poly-butylene succinate is a key polymer used in the production of bioplastics.
