HOUSTON (ICIS)--US contract prices for glycol ethers are expected to increase in February as indicated by recent producer announcements, sources said on Monday.

List prices for glycol ethers from Dow Chemical will increase 5 cents/lb effective on 15 February according to a letter sent to the company's distributors and customers, a trader said.

The price increases are for all products in Dow's E- and P-series glycol ethers, sources said.

Traders said producers Eastman Chemical and LyondellBasell Equistar have also announced 5 cents/lb increases effective mid-February for glycol ethers such as butyl glycol, butyl di-glycol and propylene glycol methyl ether.

Producers cite the rising costs of feedstock propylene as the primary reason for the increases, a trader said.

Contract prices for butyl glycol for January are at 86-88 cents/lb ($1,896-1,940/tonne, €1,441-1,474/tonne) delivered, as assessed by ICIS pricing

If they take hold, the price increases for glycol ethers would be the first seen in the market since September 2011.
