PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (ICIS)--Brazil's 2011 oil refining and ethanol production increased by 0.5% year on year, while rubber and plastics production fell by 1.3%, a government agency said on Tuesday.
Overall, Brazil's industrial production fell significantly since April, although it closed 2011 with an increase of 0.3%, according to the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute (IBGE).
For December, 16 industrial segments increased production month on month while 11 registered a decrease, the IBGE said. Production of rubber and plastics decreased by 1.8%.
Year on year in December, oil refining and ethanol production fell by 4.4%, the IBGE said. Rubber and plastics production fell by 7.2%.
