Malaysia’s BASF-Petronas cuts run rate at crude AA unit to 50%

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s BASF-Petronas has lowered the operating rate at its 160,000 tonne/year crude acrylic acid (AA) unit to 50% capacity because of a mechanical failure, a company source said on Wednesday.

The source did not give further details on the mechanical failure.

“The CAA plant has two trains and one has been shut,” said the source.

BASF-Petronas will be running the plant at 50% capacity until the end of March, the source added.

As a result, the company’s glacial acrylic acid (GAA), butyl acrylate (butyl-A) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) output will be affected, the source said, without giving further details.
