Largest refinery in Colombia to undergo turnaround in March

BOGOTA (ICIS)--Ecopetrol’s Barrancabermeja refinery, the largest in Colombia, will start a planned turnaround in March, a source familiar with the refinery’s operations said on Wednesday.

The turnaround on the U2.000 refinery, will begin around 1 March and is planned to end on 24 March, the source said.

Ecopetrol last performed maintenance on a cracking unit at the refinery and petrochemical complex in September.

The Barrancabermeja complex includes four catalytic cracking units, two polyethylene and alkylation plants, sulphuric acid, paraffin and aromatic plants, according to Ecopetrol.

The complex produces 75% of the domestic supply of gasoline, fuel oil and diesel, as well as 70% of petrochemical products for the domestic market, according to the company.

The complex has an ethylene capacity of 120,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects.
