The cause of the power outage is still being investigated and it is not clear when the cracker will resume operations, the source said.
A derivative 400,000 tonne/year linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit and a 300,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) facility at the site were shut briefly on 31 January because of the power outage, but are now running smoothly, the source said.
PTTGC’s three other crackers at Map Ta Phut that have a combined ethylene nameplate capacity of 1.38m tonnes/year were not affected by the outage, the source said.
