HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Dow Chemical's new ethane cracker will be a brownfield project, and the company will most likely build it in Texas, the company's chief executive said on Thursday.

Dow had announced the project in April 2011, along with its propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plants.

Dow is planning to start operating the ethane cracker in 2016-2017, said Andrew Liveris, Dow CEO. He made his comments during an earnings conference call.

"It will be a world-scale, ethane-based cracker," Liveris said. "We've announced that we are working on a location, most likely Texas."
