Japan’s Nippon Shokubai nine-month profit rises 24%, sales up 14%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s Nippon Shokubai said on Friday its net profit for the April-December 2011 period rose 23.7% year on year to yen (Y) 17.2bn ($226m) because of increased sales volume.

Operating profit in the nine months to 31 December 2011 increased 21.1% to Y26.6bn, while net sales were up 14.3% to Y242.5bn, the company said in a statement.

In the basic chemicals segment, operating profit for the nine-month period grew 22.7% year on year to Y12.0bn, while net sales were up 12.4% to Y103.8bn, partly on strong acrylic acid market, Nippon Shokubai said.
