HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Eastman Chemical had to shut down an ethylene oxide (EO) plant in Longview, Texas, because of a failed valve bonnet, the company said on Friday in a regulatory filing.
“A valve bonnet failed on the EO feed to the plant 2 refining column,” said a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). “Sprinkler system activated to capture EO in water and dilute its concentration.”
Eastman shut down the plant to make repairs, the filing said. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The plant has an EO capacity of 105,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects.
