US LSB completes project to increase anhydrous ammonia production

HOUSTON (ICIS)--LSB Industries has completed a month-long project to increase anhydrous ammonia production at its Pryor plant in Oklahoma by up to 40%, the producer said on Monday.

The plant was permitted to produce as much 700 tons/day, but flow restrictions caused it to produce no more than 500 tons/day, LSB said.

“The primary purpose of the improvement project was to correct those restrictions,” LSB said.

The plant was shut down from 3 January to 3 February while the improvement project took place.

Production lost during the project “should be more than offset during the balance of 2012,” LSB said.

The Pryor plant produces anhydrous ammonia from natural gas, which is sold as anhydrous ammonia and is also the primary feedstock, along with urea, for the production of urea ammonia nitrate.
