SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Hongxin Chemicals plans to complete expansion works and start up a 60,000 tonne/year line at its phthalic anhydride (PA) facility in Shandong in the middle of this year, a company source said on Thursday.
The plant consists of a 20,000 tonne/year line and two lines with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year each.
The company owns a second plant in Dongguan that can produce 50,000 tonnes/year of PA.
Shandong Hongxin is maintaining its total PA run rates at above 90% of capacity this month, the source added.
Last November, the company slashed its total PA run rates to 40% of capacity because of poor production margins and weak demand. It later ramped up its PA operating rates after the Lunar New Year in January as a result of a pick-up in demand.
