Hong Kong Petrochemical restarts PS plant after turnaround

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Hong Kong Petrochemical is in the process of restarting its 140,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) unit at Yuen Long in the New Territories after a two-week turnaround, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

The company’s facility produces both general purpose PS (GPPS) and high impact PS (HIPS), the source said.

“The GPPS line was restarted yesterday [7 February], while the HIPS line is being restarted today,” the source said.

The unit, which was shut in late January, is expected to be up and running by the end of this week, the source added.

The other PS producer in Hong Kong is Dow Chemical.
