Russia’s Sibur starts trial runs at new Tobolsk PP plant in Q4

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Russia’s Sibur plans to start trial runs at its new 500,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Tobolsk in the fourth quarter of the year, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

Commission works will start on the plant, which will the use the Innovene PP process technology of INEOS, during the period, said the source from Sibur's petrochemical trading arm.

The initial product range of the new PP plant will include injection moulding, fibre, raffia, biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cast film grades, the source said.

Marketable volumes of products from the new plant will be available for shipment in January 2013, at the earliest, the source said.

Upon the start-up of the Tobolsk plant, Sibur’s third in Russia, the company is targeting to export up to 200,000 tonnes of PP to China, 100,000 tonnes to Turkey and another 100,000 tonnes to EU in 2013, the CITCO source said.

Sibur is the leading petrochemical company in Russia and eastern Europe. The company operates across the entire petrochemical process chain from gas processing, production of monomers, plastics and synthetic rubbers to the processing of plastics.
