SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Formosa BP Chemicals Corp (FBPC) plans to shut its 300,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Mailiao, Taiwan, in March for turnaround lasting up to 30 days, a company official said on Monday.

“The plant will be shut for 20 or 30 days for annual maintenance,” the official said.

Meanwhile, spot prices of acetic acid in Asia rose to around $455/tonne (€346/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) NE Asia at the close of business last Friday, up 2.25% from one-year lows recorded in December 2011, on the back of firmer feedstock methanol and naphtha values, according to ICIS data.

Major acetic acid producers in Asia include US-based Celanese, UK’s BP, China’s Jiangsu Sopo, Shanghai Wujing, Yankuang Cathay Coal Chemicals, Henan ShunDa Chemical and Hebei Chung Shun Chemical, Taiwan’s Chang Chun Petrochemicals and CPDC, India’s GNFC and Iran’s Fanavaran Petrochemical.
