LONDON (ICIS)--Fluor has won a contract to design and build a biofuels demonstration facility in New Mexico, the US-based international petrochemicals engineering firm said on Tuesday.

Fluor was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract by US-based Joule Unlimited

The contract value was not disclosed.

The facility is intended to scale-up a pilot process currently producing liquid fuels via Joule technology that uses sunlight to convert proprietary organisms and carbon dioxide into liquid hydrocarbons and ethanol.

“We fully expect to demonstrate the high efficiencies and commercial viability of our process, which will further enhance Joules leadership position in the biofuels industry,” said Bill Sims, president and CEO of Joule.
