Thai PTTGC to restart Map Ta Phut HDPE plant in end-February

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) plans to restart its 250,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Map Ta Phut at the end of February, about a month after the unit was shut because of a power outage, a company source said on Friday.

“The plant has been shut since the power outage [on 31 January],” the source said.

PTTGC’s 300,000 tonne/year low density PE (LDPE) plant at the same site has ramped up production to 100% capacity, after it resumed operation on 15 February, the source said.

The company’s two other HDPE plants with a combined capacity of 550,000 tonnes/year, and its 400,000 tonne/year linear low density PE (LLDPE) unit at Map Ta Phut were not affected by the power outage, and have been running at full capacity, the source said.
