SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s CPC Corp has delayed the permanent closure of its 230,000 tonne/year No 3 cracker in Linyuan by around two months to end-May, a company source said on Friday.

No specific reason was provided for postponing the shutdown, which was initially slated in end-March.

Separately, CPC’s new ethylene plant – known as the No 6 cracker that is expected to replace the No 3 unit in Linyuan – is targeted to start up at the end of the first quarter of 2013, the source said.

The new cracker is expected to be able to produce around 600,000 tonnes/year of ethylene.

CPC also has a No 4 cracker in Linyuan with an ethylene capacity of  385,000 tonnes/year, and another cracker at Kaohsiung that has a 500,000 tonne/year ethylene capacity.
