Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical delays restart of PTA plant in Haldia

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical did not restart its 800,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Haldia, India on 20 February because of mechanical problems, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The restart of the plant has been further delayed from early February after a planned three-week shutdown starting from 7 January, the source said.

Mitsubishi informed its customers that the restart will be put off by four to five days, the source said.

“India customers will have to look for other available sources if the plant remains shut,” he said.

Mitsubishi Chemical operates a second PTA plant in Haldia with an annual capacity of 470,000 tonnes/year. The plant was running at full capacity.
