Russia’s monomer, polymer, fertilizer output down in January

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russian ethylene production fell by 8% year on year to 205,000 tonnes in January, while output of most monomers, polymers and fertilizers also fell, the Russian statistics agency Rosstat said on Wednesday.

Last month, Russia’s total production of polyethylene (PE) was down by 5% year on year at 137,000 tonnes. Polypropylene (PP) production was also down, by 12% year on year at 52,600 tonnes, although polystyrene (PS) output was 8% up year on year at 31,900 tonnes, according to Rosstat.

In January, Russia’s total styrene output also rose in line with PS production, by 8% year on year to 48,500 tonnes, but propylene production dropped by 10% year on year to 119,000 tonnes, the agency said.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) output grew by 6% up year on year to 62,100 tonnes, Rosstat said.

And benzene output decreased by 5% down year on year to 89,100 tonnes, it added.

Total output of mineral fertilizers for the month was down by 13% year on year at 1.46m tonnes, Rosstat said.

Ammonia production was 8% down year on year at 1.17m tonnes.
