SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's fertilizer sales reached nearly 1.9m tonnes in January 2012, up by 8.5% year on year, the Fertilizer Distribution Association (ANDA) said on Tuesday.

Fertilizer production in January reached 800,000 tonnes, up 14.8% year on year.

Fertilizer imports reached nearly 1.3m tonnes in January, down 17.6% year on year.

Sales grew in January 2012 mainly as a result of higher demand for sugarcane, cotton, coffee, corn and rice, the association added.
