China LLDPE futures flat; market awaits seasonal demand pick-up

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) futures barely moved on Thursday, even as market players expect a seasonal improvement in demand from the downstream agricultural films sector.

The production of agricultural films, which uses LLDPE as raw material, usually peaks in March, traders said.

May LLDPE futures, which is the most actively traded contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE), closed at yuan (CNY) 10,370/tonne ($1,646/tonne) on Thursday, up by CNY10/tonne from the settlement price of CNY10,360/tonne on Wednesday.

Around 1.86m tonnes of LLDPE, or 743,854 contracts, for delivery in May were traded on Thursday, according to DCE data.
