SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Ningbo Xinqiao Chemical, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Loyal Group, is planning to start up a 120,000 tonne/year expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant at Ningbo in east China in April, a source from its parent company said on Wednesday.

“All the construction is finished and [we can operate it] once we get the production licence,” the source said.

The plant is Ningbo Xinqiao Chemical’s second EPS facility in the region, according to the source.

Ningbo Xinqiao Chemical’s total EPS capacity will reach 300,000 tonnes/year once the new plant comes on stream, the source added.

Loyal Group, the largest global EPS producer, is building a 150,000 tonne/year EPS plant at Liaoning in northeast China and is planning to bring it on stream in June, company source said.

Loyal Group currently has a total of 1.73 million tonne/year EPS capacity globally. The producer operates a 390,000 tonne/year at Tianjin in north China, a 180,000 tonne/year unit in Ningbo and a 450,000 tonne/year at Jiangyin in east China.

In addition, the company has a 450,000 tonne/year at Dongguan in south China, a 100,000 tonne/year plant at Xinjiang in northwest China and a 160,000 tonne/year facility in Taiwan.
