Iran’s Kharg Petrochemical runs methanol plant at full rates

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Iran-based Kharg Petrochemical is running its 660,000 tonne/year natural gas-based methanol plant on Kharg Island at 100% capacity after restarting it on 7 March, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant was off line for just three to four days for maintenance.

The company will be shipping 60,000 tonnes of methanol to China in March.

Kharg Petrochemical does not have any contract of affreightment (COA) with shipowners, preferring to work on a spot basis.

The entire methanol production of the plan is currently sold in China. However, the source said they are also interested in countries which offer good profits.

Other methanol producers in the Middle East include SABIC and National Petrochemical Company.
