HOUSTON (ICIS)--Ecolab has acquired Brazil’s Econ Industria e Comercio de Produtos de Higiene e Limpeza in order to further expand in that country, the US-based specialty chemicals and services firm said on Thursday.

Sao Paulo-based Econ Industria provides cleaning and sanitising products and services to the Brazilian foodservice industry. It has sales of about $9.0m/year (€6.8m/year).

Ecolab CEO Douglas Baker said the acquisition would increase his company’s service capacity and scale in the fast-growing Brazilian market.

“Econ operates a very similar business model to our own and serves a similar customer base in the expanding Brazilian foodservice market,” Baker added.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

St Paul, Minnesota-based Ecolab is focused on water, hygiene and energy technologies and services. Last year, it acquired water chemicals major Nalco in a $5.4bn deal.
