US Apache in talks to bring fertilizer plant to Canada

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Apache Corporation is in discussions to bring a large fertilizer plant to Canada, the chief executive of the US oil and gas producer said on Thursday.

“We’re talking to [a] large fertilizer outfit about putting in the largest fertilizer plant to be built in Canada,” said Steven Farris at the IHS CERAWeek energy conference in Houston.

A fertilizer plant would play into Apache’s strategy to monetise its position in the unconventional Horn River gas basin in Canada. Apache holds a total of 7.5m acres in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Farris declined to comment on the specifics of the plant.

The IHS CERAWeek conference runs until Friday.
