SAN DIEGO, California (ICIS)--The president of the US-based American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Monday called for the group’s members to more actively dispel myths and perpetuate the positive aspects of the oil and gas industry.
“The US is energy rich, not energy poor,” AFPM president Charles Drevna said at the group’s annual meeting in San Diego, California. “People need to hear that the products we make and the jobs we provide will spark a new renaissance in manufacturing and a new prosperity for our entire nation.”
Drevna said members of the AFPM need to more directly and forcefully confront the industry’s critics.
“If we stand by and don’t counter the fiction with fact, who can blame the American people for believing all the false claims made against us,” he said. “But we need all members of the choir to join in and sing the same tune from the same song book. We need to tell the American people in clear and compelling language why we offer them realistic solutions to the energy challenges facing our country today.”
The AFPM’s annual conference ends on Tuesday.
