HOUSTON (ICIS)--US butyl acetate (butac) exports in January soared by 73% to 7,662 tonnes from 4,432 tonnes in the same month of 2011, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
Most of the increase came from four new export destinations: India, the Netherlands, Turkey and Peru, which received a total of 3,518 tonnes in January. Those countries took no butac exports in January 2011.
India and the Netherlands also were among the top four destinations in January; the other two were Mexico and Brazil. Butac shipments to those countries totalled 4,450 tonnes, 58% of all US butac exports in January.
Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical and Oxea Group.
