SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangsu Hongxing Chemical is planning to bring its 40,000 tonne/year dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) unit at Jiangsu on stream in late April, once trial runs have been successfully conducted, a company source said on Wednesday.

Construction of the plant began in the middle of 2011 and upon its start-up will raise the producer’s DOTP capacity to 50,000 tonnes/year, the source added.

The company did not disclose the financial details of the expansion.

“The expansion is in line with the company’s development plan as environmentally friendly plasticizers are more competitive than traditional plasticisers such as dioctyl phthalate (DOP),” said the source.

The plant start-up will cause DOTP supply in the east China market to increase, a market player said.

However, it is unlikely to have an impact on the market in the near term, the player added.

Jiangsu Hongxing Chemical is a plasticiser producer based in Jiangsu in east China.
