Brazilian industrial employment declines by 0.5% year on year

MEDELLIN (ICIS)--Brazilian industrial employment declined by 0.5% year on year in January, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), a government agency said on Wednesday.

Industrial employment also continued its monthly decline in January, moving lower by 0.3% after dropping in November and December, IBGE said.

Industrial emplyment declined in 14 sectors year on year, according to IBGE.

Industrial employment in the plastics and rubber sector declined by 4.8% year on year, while employment in metal products dropped by 4.9%.

The monthly survey of industrial employment and wages produces indicators on the behavior of employment and wages in industrial activities, according to IBGE.
