LONDON (ICIS)--Romania's competition council has cleared the acquisition of a majority shareholding in Azomures, Romania's largest fertilizer producer, by Swiss grain and fertilizer trader Ameropa Group, Azomures said on Friday.

The regulator had issued a “non-objection” to the market changes that would be effected by privately-owned Ameropa gaining control of Azomures by purchasing shareholdings from a Turkish group of investors that currently control the company with a combined shareholding of 75.9%, it added.

Ameropa is a grain trader in Romania through its cereal storage company.

Azomures has ammonium nitrate (AN) and calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) units, both of which produce about 300,000 tonnes/year.
