MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Jilin Petrochemical has brought forward the maintenance shutdown date for its 15,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) line at Jilin in northeastern China to 23 May, a company source said on Tuesday.
The overhaul will be completed on around 3 July, the source added.
The shutdown was originally scheduled to start on 26 May and end on 4 July.
Jilin Petrochemical carries out a major plant overhaul every four years.
The company’s other 15,000 tonne/year line at the same site has been mostly idle since September 2008, partly because of poor economics.
MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is used mainly as a solvent for industrial paints and thinners and in the production of rubber chemicals.
