SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China imported 564,383tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP), or potassium chloride, in February which is nearly a three fold increase year on year, according to the data from China Customs on Friday.

Customs data did not have the actual comparative figure of MOP imports in February 2011.

The import volume increased largely because many cargoes whose contracts were signed in the second half of 2011 arrived in February, industry sources said.

Total MOP imports in the first two months of this year rose by 90.91% year on year to 1.26m tonnes, also because of the arrival of previously contracted cargoes.
