HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Chevron Phillips Chemical (CP Chem) plans to expand the natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation capacity at its Sweeny Plant in Old Ocean, Texas, the company said on Monday.

Construction should start in April, and the project should be completed in February 2013, Chevron Phillips said.

The project will increase the site's capacity by 22,000 bbl/day or 19%, the company said. It will use NGLs from the Eagle Ford and Permian basins.

Currently, the NGL fractionation unit at Sweeny has two trains and a capacity of 116,000 bbl/day.

US crackers use NGLs as feedstock.
