HOUSTON (ICIS)--Shell still did not announce a timeline on when it may build a cracker in the northeast US, an executive said on Wednesday.

Shell has chosen a site in Pennsylvania that it would evaluate for a possible ethane cracker. Shell is also considering polyethylene (PE) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) units.

However, Shell still has no timeline for the cracker if it decides to pursue the project, said Ben van Beurden, an executive vice president with Shell Chemicals.

He made his comments during the World Petrochemical Conference, held by IHS Chemical.

Earlier this month, Shell CEO Peter Voser said the company is years away from making a final decision on funding a new cracker.

The World Petrochemical Conference lasts through Thursday.
