SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Hongxin is planning to significantly boost its exports of maleic anhydride (MA) in the second half of this year following a threefold capacity expansion at its plant at Dongying in Shandong, a company source said on Thursday.

The expansion at the 20,000 tonne/year MA unit is scheduled to take place in May or June and will see the company’s overall capacity of MA increase to 60,000 tonnes/year, the source said.

“Shandong Hongxin’s MA export volume is likely to increase to 1,800 tonnes each month from the second half of this year,” the source said.

The company at present exports about 100 tonnes of MA each month, the source said.

Shandong Hongxin also operates a 100,000 tonne/year unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) plant and three phthalic anhydride (PA) lines with a total production capacity of 120,000 tonnes/year at the same site.

Other MA producers in the region include Taiwan’s UPC Technology and Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corp (TPCC), South Korea’s Yongsan Chemicals, Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical and Nippon Shokubai as well as Indonesia’s Justus Sakti Raya.
