SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Jianlan Petrochemical is planning to start up its new 70,000 tonne/year 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit at Zibo in Shandong province in mid-April this year, a company source said on Friday.

The unit will start up after a one-week scheduled maintenance from 5 April at the company’s existing 140,000 tonne/year 2-EH plant at the same site, the source said.

The company’s overall 2-EH output will increase by 6,000 tonnes/month after the start-up of the new unit, according to the source.

“We cannot predict so far whether the 2-EH prices will decline after the plant starts up,” a local market player said.

Prices of 2-EH in east China market were at yuan (CNY) 11,950-12,000/tonne ($1,897-1,905/tonne) EXW (ex-works) on 29 March, up by CNY100/tonne from 22 March, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
