SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Brunei Methanol Co (BMC) will restart its 850,000 tonne/year methanol plant at Sungai Liang Industrial Park by 30 March, a company source said on Friday.

The plant was shut on 26 March because of mechanical issues, the source said.

BMC is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC), ITOCHU and Petroleum Brunei. MGC holds a 50% stake in the company, while the remaining 50% share is equally held by ITOCHU and Petroleum Brunei.

Methanol is used in the manufacture of formaldehyde, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), methyl chlorides, methyl methacrylate (MMA) and acetic acid.
