LONDON (ICIS)--Celanese has appointed Mark Rohr as its chairman and CEO after David Weidman officially retired, the Texas-based chemical firm said on Monday.

Celanese said Rohr, who has been a director of the company since 2007, was named by the company's board of directors in November 2011 to succeed Weidman from 2 April.

“This is a tremendous time to be part of the Celanese team,” said Rohr.

“I’m eager to work with these talented employees to create more value for customers and shareholders alike,” he added.

“Celanese is well positioned to leverage our global capabilities against growth goals and translate our chemistry into solutions that add value,” said Rohr.

Rohr was previously CEO and chairman of US chemicals producer Albemarle Corporation.
