AFPM ’12: Global 2-EH price could jump on demand increase

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS)--Expanding markets in Asia for the plasticiser 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) are adding pressure to already tight supplies and could result in higher prices, sources said on Monday.

While the market for 2-EH in China has slowed, demand for the plasticiser in India and southeast Asia is surging, a trader said on the sidelines of the
International Petrochemical Conference (IPC).

With limited global supply, any resurgence in demand in the US and Europe would cause international prices for 2-EH to skyrocket, the trader said.

US export prices for 2-EH are assessed this week in a range of $1,930-2,030/tonne (€1,448-1,523) FOB US Gulf.

Hosted by the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), the IPC continues through Tuesday.
