ORLANDO, Florida (ICIS)--Mexico’s Resirene, the main polystyrene (PS) producer in the country, expects to keep prices stable in April for all grades of PS, a company source said on Tuesday on the sidelines of the National Plastics Exposition (NPE) at Orlando

General purpose PS (GPPS) prices had been increased by 2 cents/lb ($44/tonne, €33/tonne) in March, while high impact PS (HIPS) prices were up by 4 cents/lb.

The March increase was following larger price hikes applied in January and February to restore margins affected by a strong surge in feedstock costs.

April GPPS prices in Mexico are in the range of $1,873-1,939/tonne FOT (free on truck), while high-impact PS (HIPS) prices were at $2,049-2,137/tonne FOT, based on ICIS data.

Demand has softened in Mexico with the proximity of the Easter holiday, which historically affects normal activities for about one week and sometimes longer.

The main PS producers in Mexico are Resirene, Styrolution Mexicana and Idesa.

The four-day NPE event is sponsored by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) and runs through Thursday.
