NPE ’12: Chile’s PP prices up by $50/tonne in April

ORLANDO, Florida (ICIS)--Petroquim, Chile’s sole polypropylene (PP) producer, is increasing the price of homopolymers by $50/tonne (€38/tonne) in April to offset rising feedstock costs, a source at Petroquim said on Tuesday on the sidelines of the National Plastics Exposition (NPE) at Orlando.

The minimum price of raffia homopolymers for large-volume buyers in April was set at $1,770/tonne DEL (delivered), with injection grades at slightly higher levels.

Transformers buying from distributors may see prices $100-200/tonne higher.

Domestic demand was seen as strong in Chile, and there were concerns about diminished production of PP caused by feedstock shortages.

The four-day NPE event is sponsored by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) and runs through Thursday.
