Taiwan’s CPC Kaohsiung complex hit by pipeline explosion, fire

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--An explosion in a pipeline at Taiwan’s CPC Corp refining and petrochemical facility in Kaohsiung on Friday morning resulted in a fire that was put out two hours later, a company source said.

The explosion occurred at about 03.00 hours Taiwan time (19:00 GMT).

“The fire was put out in about two hours but there were no causalities,” the source added.

A company official confirmed that the 500,000 tonne/year No 5 cracker at Kaohsiung was shut as a result of the fire.

“We are still attending to the accident site and we have no other details,” he said, adding that other plants were not affected.
